Why we started El-Mag — and why we’ll never sound like a call center.

Where it began

In 2014, our mother lost the job she’d held for more than thirty years. Instead of waiting for the next employer to call, she taught herself the licensing exams and became a licensed insurance agent. She and her sister joined Bankers Life and started learning the business one client at a time.

After a couple of years they made a decision that would shape everything else: they walked away from a captive agency and built their own — an independent agency that could represent multiple carriers and put clients first.

What we’re building

El-Mag Insurance was founded in 2015. The purpose was simple — to create a long-lasting legacy for our family while looking after our neighbors with the same care our mother brought to her first clients. Today, the office in Plantation, Florida serves individuals and families across sixteen states, and most of the people answering the phones are still family.

Why family-owned matters

In an industry full of call centers and rotating reps, family-owned agencies are getting rare. We think that’s a mistake. Health insurance is one of the most personal financial decisions you make every year, and you deserve to talk to someone who knows your name, remembers what you told them last fall, and will still be here next AEP.
